In the Broadway adaptation of TLK, there is a large feline skull at the front of the pile of bones on which Scar reclines in the opener to the second act, “The Madness of King Scar”. I think having that skull there is a callback to the scene in the movie where Scar plays with a skull as Zazu entertains him with the coconut song.

A deleted scene from The Lion King shows Scar proposing to Nala. That disturbed me more than this theory....

I was right on first glance I thought it looked like a baboon skull the whole time. I have taken a biological anthropology course and lab before so I was taught quite a bit about primate and ancestral hominid skulls/fossils. Plus I know felines and knew the length of jaw was too long and not the right teeth.

Maybe the baboon skull was a hidden easter egg since in early drafts of the story, Scar was going to be king of the baboons.

Matpat's recap just made me realize that the Lion King has the same basic plot as Hamlet (except Simba is exiled and then finds out Scar killed his father when he gets back). I don't know what to do with this information.
